Tai Chi – Healing Movement and Chi Fitness
Relieve Pain Using The Right Kind Of Movement
If you’re in pain and want to keep moving, Healing Movements Instructor, Joe Pinella, offers three classes at The Highlands that help to do just that.
It can be a real challenge to stay active while facing issues like chronic pain, arthritis, Parkinson’s, surgeries, injuries and heart disease. At this age, we all have some kind of accumulated damage from injuries, illnesses and long periods of inactivity over a lifetime.
Joe personally knows what it takes to repair the body and then get really fit. Joe worked his way back after being paralyzed from the neck down following a broken neck and back. He used Chi Gong (the medical ancestor of Tai Chi), which he learned as a youngster in New York City. This experience gives Joe a unique perspective on teaching fitness to people over 55.
Joe’s program, Healing Movements System is based on his own recovery. “Healing Movements System” restores basic functional movement skills: like the ability to get up easily from a chair, bending down to use the bottom drawer in your refrigerator, walking without fear of falling, all while relieving pain and stiffness.
“Chi Fitness!” takes it a step further by strengthening and re-conditioning the whole body: without the damage often caused by more vigorous sports and activities.
Schedule of Classes:
Saturdays 10-10:50am Healing Movements System
Mondays: 10-10:50am Chi Fitness!
Wednesdays: 10-10:50am Chi Fitness!

Gentle Yoga (Beginners Yoga)
Yoga is an ancient practice that unites body, mind, and spirit. This union happens when there is an emphasis on meditation, breathing, stretching and the practicing of the asanas (postures).
Mixed Level Yoga Vinyasa Yoga / Mixed Level
Postures are held longer and often in yoga flows.
"Eclectic" yoga focuses on promoting mindfulness, breath, balance, flexibility, strength, and having FUN! Asanas (poses) and vinyasas (pose flows) are done with and without props, which include blocks, a blanket, and a strap. The walls and chairs are also used as needed. The goal is to help the "yogis and yoginis" at all levels in their practice execute the poses to the best of their ability and reduce the chance of injury. While Eclectic yoga is not "Laughter" yoga, we do have fun and laugh a lot in this health-promoting class.
